What are the Keys to Achievable Outcomes?

The Keys to Achievable Outcomes is an NLP framework for setting well-formed goals. Unlike simple goal setting, it checks that an outcome is genuinely obtainable, ecological, and self-sustaining.

  1. State it in the positive, as if now — what do you want? (not what you don't want)
  2. Where are you now? — establish the present state
  3. Be specific — what will you see, hear, feel, notice and say to yourself when you get there?
  4. Evidence procedure — how will you know when you have achieved it?
  5. Is it congruent? — does every part of you want this?
  6. What will this do for you or allow you to do? — what is the deeper purpose?
  7. Is it just for you? — can you initiate and maintain it yourself?
  8. Context — where, when, how and with whom do you want this?
  9. Is it self-initiating and self-maintaining? — does it depend only on you?
  10. Check ecology — is it congruently desirable? What will happen if you do or don't get this outcome?
  11. Is it achievable? — do you have, or can you get, the resources needed?
